I am linking up my post with Wild Bird Wednesday and Nature Notes
This week I am showing my Hermit Thrush. The Hermit Thrush is a winter visitor to my yard. Here is some info on the Hermit Thrush: they have a white eye ring, heavily spotted below, a reddish tail that contrast with its back. It will flick its tail often, so look for the wagging tail.
This shot was taken out my dining room window, I was spooking the bird easily just by looking at it. I am trying to hide behind the curtain to take these shots. I guess now you can me a bird stalker.
My field guide says they enjoy insects and berries, but I am happy this one enjoys my bird seed or peanut nuggets.
A good view of the eye ring and the pink legs.
This Hermit Thrush is a bird I have been seeing in my yard the last couple of weeks. It is not a life bird for me but it is a nice bird to have in my yard. I hope enjoyed my bird this week.

Birds are so kool and so cute. We have many of those, but I mostly see them in the winter because they congregate in huge numbers around the seed & suet balls we and our Neighbours hang in the trees.
ReplyDeleteBTW, I like the newer look of your pages AND the fact that they load faster. Sometimes it was always a pain before in waiting. I'm not sure what it was. But maybe related to that virus warning issue you had some time back.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great bird to have visiting your garden! I am lucky if I get a Song Thrush in mine!
ReplyDeleteJ
Yes, you are a bird stalker...and I love it..beautiful photos!!
ReplyDeleteHave a nice week!
The Hermit Thrush is beautiful! What a great visitor and great captures!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely bird. Thanks for explaining the details of his body. He seems like a simple fellow - give him some kernels, and he's OK.
ReplyDeleteHallo Eileen!Very cute little bird!Great pictures and close up!I enjoyed seeing them!!Well done!!Hope you have a lovely day!!
ReplyDeleteDimi..

ReplyDeleteDelicate and almost pastel . . . very nice to meet your "Hermit Visitor."
ReplyDeleteYou got a chuckle out of me by referring to yourself as a "bird stalker". Nice pictures, as always.
ReplyDeleteHi Eillen,
ReplyDeletewo unique birds, for sure such a pleasure doing bird watching, surrounded by nature.

How fun to have a Hermit Thrush throughout the winter! You did a good job stalking it, Eileen - photos are lovely.
ReplyDeleteadorable! i don't get to see thrushes here (except for robins passing thru).
ReplyDeleteLove the Hermit Thrush, Eileen... He is such a cute little birdie.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a good day. Going to the parade?
Hugs,
Betsy

LOL at the bird stalker, Eileen. Aren't we all? That little bird is striking (but then I love LBJ's) and with that pertinent eye-ring reminds me of our White-eyed Slaty Flycatcher. Thanks for a beautiful post. Jo
ReplyDeleteHe's a cute little guy. One of the things I learned on my bird walk was to watch for certain bird behaviors which can help differentiate from similar looking varieties. Birding is so fun, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteCute little bird. I'm glad you stalked it. It would be fun to see it wagging it's tail.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute bird! I'm glad that you were "stalking" him so we could see these pretty shots :)
ReplyDeleteGreat post for WBW!
ReplyDeleteLovely to see your photos!
That is one of my elusive summertime birds. Take good care of him this winter then send him back up my way.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots, Eileen! I don't recall the last time I saw a Hermit Thrush.
ReplyDeleteWonderful to see your Hermit Thrush, Eileen. I've only spotted that little wagging tail twice, here in Vancouver. You did well to get such excellent photos!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your sweet little Hermit Thrush immensely. I like peanuts too ~:)
ReplyDeleteGreat shots, Eileen.
Thank you for your sweet comment on My Dream Canvas. Great pics:) Anu
ReplyDeleteI don't believe I've even seen one of these! Great fun for you to get some photos of it.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful bird to have visiting your yard. Great photos and well worth "skulking" behind your curtains!
ReplyDeleteWell it looks like being a bird stalker paid off, you got some great shots of the Hermit Thrush. He is a really cute little fellow.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots of the hermit thrush and they will help me with identifying the ones in my yard. There are some similarities to the sparrows I have but also some clear differences. I appreciated your help a week or so ago when I misnamed one.
ReplyDeleteWow! That is great. They are usually very shy.
ReplyDeleteIt's a cute little guy. My presence at the window often spooks the birds I am stalking too!
ReplyDeleteThis is a new one for me. You got different angles!
ReplyDeleteI love Hermit Thrushes - they're a breeding season migrant for us. I find I more often hear them than see them - love your pics and the chance to get a really good look at this fellow!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you're a bird stalker. You got some great pictures of the Hermit Thrush.
ReplyDeleteNice job on getting pictures of the Hermit Thrush! I chase but I never catch!
ReplyDeleteGreat image series :) Hanne Bente
ReplyDeleteI can just see you hiding behind a curtain and poking the camera around it to sneak a picture. Funny!...bird stalker, you are!
ReplyDeleteJust goes to show you dont have to have bright colours to look good!
ReplyDeleteCheers and thanks for linking to WBW.

it's the thrill of the chase isn't it, as to how we manage a photographic moment of our local birds. You got some special close-ups, in the comfort of your own home; well done!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful bird! I went in your archives to look at some of your owl photos. You have some terrific shots, it was fun to look at them!
ReplyDeleteIt's a good bird to have in your yard Eileen. You made me laugh with a vision of you hiding behind the curtains, but if that's what it takes to get such good pictures then sometimes we just have to do it. I guess your thrushes are like ours, many of the species quite shy and your hermit reminds me of our Song Thrush but without the rusty tail.
ReplyDeleteVery nice pictures of this thrust! At first I thought it was a redstart. I don't think I ever seen this one.
ReplyDeleteYou can call me a bird stalker too! :)
Thanks for your comment and have a nice week, Eileen!

We had a wood thrush nest in our grapevines last year -- they are such pretty birds.
ReplyDeleteA lovely visitor to have Eileen, rather delicate looking and quite similar to our Song Thrush.
ReplyDeleteI loved the White-breasted Nuthatch on the earlier post too :-)
I think we are all bird stalkers in this group! Great post :)
ReplyDeleteThey are such beautiful birds!
ReplyDeleteBoth of you were so close to each other.
ReplyDeleteThat builds a good rapport.
Beautiful little Thrush, well done Eileen and the Thrush for going to Eileens house.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your recent visit to my own blog and for your kind words. I have just had a lovely browse of your recent posts, fabulous photos as always.
ReplyDeleteTerrific captures, so fantastic!
ReplyDeleteWhat precious photos of the feathered-one.
ReplyDeletebird stalker. :) Yea guess that´s what we are.
ReplyDeleteIt´s a beautiful bird, love the coloring and the tail. Can´t remember seen it before. But you have many species in your garden.
Really nice shots of this pretty bird!
ReplyDeleteI would love to have a Hermit Thrush visiting my backyard! I saw one near the river the other day, but never in my yard. Lucky you...
ReplyDeletesuch lovely images Eileen!
ReplyDeleteHe is such a cute bird Eileen, great shots!
ReplyDeletewe take bird pictures the exact same way except i am hiding behind blinds, shameful, old blinds i might add.
ReplyDeletethis one's a cutie, i don't think i have ever seen one!!
i don't usually read comments but the first commentor caught my eye and YES your blog loads much quicker for me. besides the fact that i LOVE the look!!
Great shots.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos, can id him perfectly!I had a thrush or too here years ago,I don`t know why I haven`t seen any lately.I guess they are like the northern mockingbird, here for awhile, then gone before I know it,could be I`m missing them when they stop by,but, anyhow, you really got some good pictures of a timid bird.phyllis
ReplyDeleteYour images are great. Thanks, Eileen.
ReplyDeleteI always like your info Eileen. I don't see many of the birds in my yard as you do so it's nice to see the differences such as the pink legs on this one.
ReplyDeleteI think all of us are at least somewhat stalkers. :)
Nice post!
what a pretty little thrush! How nice to have it visit!
ReplyDeleteDearest Eileen,
ReplyDeleteYour winter visitor "Hermit Thrush" is sweet and adorable♡♡♡ Oh my!!! I enjoyed your wonderful former posts with gorgeous pictures. I feel SO lucky that I have chances to see these varieties of birds in your blog, my friend♬♬♬
PS> Thanks for your sweet comment. I kind of wish to have a teddy-bear color small poodle. But I cannot talk my husband into it. Haha, my grief must still be a great impact for him. I think your dog is really lucky being with you and surrounded beautiful nature.
Sending you lots of love and hugs from Japan, xoxo Miyako
looks like a sweet little thing!
ReplyDeleteDifferent birds make me feel different things. The Hermit Thrush always makes me smile with its curious nature. They just seem to pop out at the strangest times....while I'm reading or eating ice cream. Lovely little bird that makes me feel happy:)
ReplyDeleteEileen, how nice to get the hermit thrush and what wonderful Skywatch photos! Love the clouds!
ReplyDeleteOk I will take it as a life bird for me.. LOL.. Cute!!! I love it when something you don't usually see shows up and sticks around for the good food...Michelle
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing such beauty :))
ReplyDeletea kiss.
What a lovely eye that bird has and such a soft grey color! New for me, even virtually.
